As a child, I'd spend hours building elaborate playgrounds for birds. I would outfit them with tightropes, pulleys and parallel bars fashioned with bits of thread, tinfoil, mud and beads. I would envision them having nightly performances and delight in the fact that I made these little dioramas. I suppose little has changed since those days in my parents backyard in the North of England. I still play with thread and mud, only now I use these materials to create mixed media installations and functional ceramic pieces.
